Flooding in Iowa City, Iowa during the June 2013 flood event. |
Research Background
My research area includes temporal topics in GIScience and how they can be
applied to natural hazards.
Event
modeling approaches capture the geographic dynamics that occur for a given
domain. During natural hazard events, for example, modeling these occurrences
as events represents the movement and change within the hazard area. Hazard
events (e.g., flooded roadway, bridge failure) are the happenings that
decision-makers respond to during a disaster and from these events arise
response actions. Simulating geographic hazard events provide a holistic
view of the disaster and provide better information for spatiotemporal
decision making. |
