Vertically Averaged Heating for January and July 1986, 1987 and 1988

Horizontal distributions of vertically averaged heating (K/day) for January and July of 1986, 1987 and 1988 computed from the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) GWE assimilated data. These distributions have been filtered to emphasize wavelengths greater than 4,000 km. See Schaack and Johnson (1994) for a detailed discussion of the interannual variability of heating.
