2017 AOSS photo contest

Captured moments of weather and atmosphere:

From the most energetic events, to the calm and subtle, these captured moments reveal the complexity underlying our natural world.

Each year, the Atmospheric Oceanic and Space Sciences photo contest encourages scientist-photographers to share their most impressive and inspiring photos from around the world; photos that capture natural events and the weather at its finest and most intense moments.

This year, the seventh year running, was no different. The winning entry, Summer Storm, was submitted by Chris Niendorf, of the Space Science and Engineering Center. Presented below in the slideshow are the top three, the honorable mentions, along with all of the stunning pictures submitted for 2017. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the participants who made this year’s contest another success.
