Paolo Veglio |
Paolo has returned to SSEC as a post-doc Research Associate working with Bob Holz. "I studied in Bologna, Italy, where I got a bachelor in Astronomy and a master in Physics with a thesis on the vertical properties of optically thin cirrus clouds using CALIOP data. Then, again in Bologna, I got a Ph.D. in Physical Modeling for the Environmental Protection. I continued the study of ice clouds in high troposphere using lidar (CALIOP), radiometric (MODIS, AIRS) data and radiative transfer codes (RTX, RT-RET). "During my Ph.D. I spent six months here at the SSEC (almost two years ago) cooperating with Bob Holz and Bill Smith. Here I developed a dataset of collocated satellite data that I used for a preliminary test of the Dual Regression Retrieval algorithm. "Now I'm here as a postdoc and I'm going to work, mainly with Bob Holz and Dave Tobin, on the development and validation of a cloud parameter retrieval algorithm using hyperspectral infrared radiances and on the intercalibration of radiances and derived products from diverse hyperspectral infrared sensors." |

Marek Rogal | Marek will be working with Tom Greenwald. "I studied and graduated from AOS at UW-Madison (MS-2004) and (PhD-2009). Both majors were meteorology. I am interested in large scale dynamics, chemical constituents transport, remote sensing, modeling and data analysis. At SSEC, I work as a part of Proxy Data Group under the direct supervision of Tom Greenwald and Brad Pierce in analysis and validation of synthetic ABI data produced operationally by the group." |
