For many years SSEC has supplied Game Day weather reports to Campus Security and the Madison Police Department. The time period of primary concern is always two hours prior to kickoff (thats when the gates open) until one hour after the event (5th Quarter is over and the stadium has been emptied). A typical TV game (they all are now) is approximately three hours in length creating a six hours "weather window" that is of concern.
It seems as though every year more and more major universities are having to evacuate full stadiums during a game due to threatening/severe weather. Obviously this creates a significant number of challenges when the time comes to safely and quickly move 80,000 people into areas of safety.
The bottom line is, the more warning provided, the more time there is to plan any anticipated movement.
And, of course, the more information the fans have, the better prepared they are for a safe, comfortable, and exciting time rooting for the Badgers!
