The Second Annual AOSS Community Poster Reception
With over 200 attendees and 90+ posters and displays, the 2nd Annual AOSS Community Poster Reception on 14 May 2012 was a great event! Conveniently located across the street from the Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences building (AOSS), in the new Union South, the Reception provided an opportunity for researchers, scientists, and students to meet and greet and talk about the amazing work they are doing. The Space Science and Engineering Center, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, Ice Coring and Drilling Services, the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center, and others filled the hall with amazing work.
Video displays highlighting meteorological studies, a hands-on ice drilling exhibition, and video of the spectacularly popular "Hawk Cam," rounded out the successful reception.
A student poster competition with 15 posters was evaluated by 8 judges. All poster presentations were top-notch as reflected in the judges' comments and scores. A few stood out as among the best, and these will receive awards:
- The graduate student poster award (sponsored by CCR) goes to Erica Bickford for her poster, "Evaluating Emissions and Air Quality Impacts of Truck-to-Rail Freight Modal Shifts"
- Runner-up (honorable mention) goes to Karen Russ for her poster, "The Hydrological Cycle Response to Rapid vs. Slow Global Warming"
- The undergraduate student poster award (sponsored by AOS) goes to Erik Gould, for his poster, "Aerosol-cloud interaction effects on precipitation efficiency in the South Atlantic Ocean"
