Equity & Diversity
submitted by Claire Pettersen, Chair, SSEC E&D Committee
Hello;
Another year has gone by and that means some changes are coming to the Equity and Diversity Committee. Our new student member is Joey Snarski. Joey works for the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center and will be a Senior this coming Fall in the AOS Department - he is excited to help bring an undergraduate perspective to the committee.
Eva Borbas will be ending her tenure with the committee after three years of participation. We are sad to see her leave, but are happy to welcome Yinghui Lui - a researcher working for Jeff Key - to the committee as well.
Mat Gunshor's three-year term has also ended, however he will be staying on the committee because he just cannot get enough of us!
Finally, I volunteered to be the committee chair for the next year - I may soon be wondering what I was thinking, but I am committed to the task for the time being. Fortunately, Tom Demke will be staying on the Equity and Diversity Committee and can show me the ropes!
In addition to these changes, there is a whirlwind of activity getting the SSEC New Employee Tour back up and running. We are hoping to soon have a monthly New Employee Tour of the building (facilities, science, instrumentation, roof) in full swing so that new hires can not only find what they need when they need it, they may also learn about areas in the SSEC to which they may not otherwise have been exposed.
And, don't forget about the New Suggestion Box outside the Break Room on fourth floor (Room 448)! We will be keeping tabs on the box and will be notifying the directors of any suggestions.
