SSEC Media Team
SSEC has an experienced group of people working to support our research and get the word out to the university, the mainstream media, and the public about what we do and why it’s important. Librarian Jean Phillips, Webmasters Bill Bellon and Leanne Avila, Media Specialist Mark Hobson and our newest member, Design Specialist Hsuan Pi, all contribute in various ways to supporting the Center’s information needs, both incoming and outgoing.
Recently our Media Team began meeting weekly, working more closely to create timely material for our newly designed SSEC web page and to create the latest issue of Through the Atmosphere (you can download it from the SSEC web site or get a hard copy from Mark or Maria). Next we are starting a longer-term project to develop the next generation of the SSEC Booklet. This is an ambitious project and the Media Team will seek your involvement, as we will be writing about your work.
CIMSS Proposal Update
CIMSS scientists developed 41 proposals under our Cooperative Agreement with NOAA in FY2012, working closely in collaboration with the NOAA scientists stationed here. With excellent administrative support from 3rd floor, the proposals were reviewed for budgetary accuracy, federal forms were created and the packages were guided through the UW submission process so they arrived at NOAA complete and on time. Several of the proposals group or “bundle“ 5 to 10 separate research tasks for a given NOAA program; the result is more than 70 separate research projects being conducted in support of NOAA this year. These proposals are funded at just under $12M.
SSEC Summer Party
A reminder that a new twist to the SSEC Summer Party will take place on Tuesday 14 August in Union South from 4-7 pm. See Maria (251), Jenny (339) or Mark (1007) if you haven’t signed up yet. Please give this new venue a look and come and enjoy the evening with your colleagues and their families.
