Training Fees | $200 per person for MUG Members $400 per person for guests (non-MUG Members) Training fees include handouts, continental breakfast, refreshment breaks and lab. If possible, attendees should bring their own laptop, with McIDAS-X 2018.1 and McIDAS-V 1.7u1 installed, for training. Who Should Attend? | Most McIDAS sites benefit from a combination of programmers, managers, forecasters, researchers, system administrators, and operations staff. | |
Registration | To register, go to the MUG Meeting Registration Form. The registration deadline is Friday 06 April 2018. Check-in will take place in the hour before your first event (i.e., 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday if attending meeting; 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Thursday if attending only the training) at the event location. |

Parking | Because parking is very limited in the area around the meeting and training site (Union South / SSEC; see Google map), we encourage you to travel to and from it by a means other than car. Options include walking (the three hotels in the Lodging and Transportation section below are between 100 feet and 1.0 mile from Union South), using your hotel’s van/limousine service, taxi, or using the Madison Metro bus service (base fares are currently $2.00). If you must park, see the Google map for the locations of two suggested UW lots – 80 and 17 – and the UW Transportation Services Visitor Hourly parking page for additional information (e.g., access, rates and payment methods) about those lots.http://transportation.wisc.edu/parking/visitor_hourly.aspx |
Lodging and Transportation
- The three hotels below are not mandatory; they are suggested options based on location, rates, and comments from attendees at past meetings. They are listed in order of distance from the meeting location (Union South).
- The Federal Government per diem rate for Madison is currently $122. At hotels that offer that rate, you must be able to provide proof that you qualify, e.g., show your Federal picture ID at check-in.
This hotel is located in the meeting location (Union South). Rooms are available at a group rate of $151.00 per night for the nights of Monday 21 May through Thursday 24 May for standard rooms, with a reservation deadline of Saturday 21 April. Reservations can be made online via the hotel’s Reservations page using group code MUG18. Or call the Wisconsin Union Hotel at 608-263-2600 and specify that you wish to reserve a room held in the “McIDAS Users’ Group Meeting” block with group code MUG18.
A limited number of rooms may be available at the Federal rate. Federal Government employees should call to ask about availability of these rooms. You will also be required to present your Federal picture ID at check-in.
The Wisconsin Union Hotel opened in 2011 and its amenities include complimentary parking for one vehicle per room, free internet, Keurig coffee maker, mini-refrigerator, microwave, 42″ flat panel TV and 24-hour fitness center.
Rooms are available at a group rate of $159.00 per night for the nights of Monday 21 May through Thursday 24 May, with a reservation deadline Saturday 21 April. Online group reservations are not available; you must call HotelRED at 608-819-8228 and specify that you wish to reserve a room held under the “2018 MUG Meeting” group rate. Otherwise you can check availability and other rates via the hotel’s Reservations page.
HotelRED opened in 2011 and its amenities include complimentary parking on a first-come basis, complimentary airport shuttle (based on availability), free internet, in-room safe, and fitness center.
A limited number of rooms are available at a group rate of $105.00 per night for the nights of Monday 21 May through Thursday 24 May. To obtain the group rate you must contact Nancy (email or call 608-263-6721) for the confirmation number. Otherwise you can check availability and other rates via the hotel’s Reservations page.
The Lowell Center’s amenities include continental breakfast, pool and sauna. Guestrooms have Keurig coffee makers, mini-refrigerators, clock radios, 32″ flat screen TVs with cable, and high speed internet. Guest parking is on-site for $10/night or off-site (3 blocks) at no charge. Please make parking reservation when you reserve your room.

Note: SSEC reserves the right to modify or cancel the meeting and/or training sessions if the number of registrations do not meet that needed to sufficiently cover the costs. The registration deadline is April 6th, and any decision to cancel the meeting and/or training will be made by April 13th. SSEC also reserves the right to limit the number of attendees per site or organization due to limited space in the MUG Meeting facilities (auditorium and computer labs).
