Optional Training Sessions
Days 1 and 2 (November 14 and 15) are optional training days and thus require that the additional training fee (see the Information page) to have been paid at registration. On each of the two days, registration check-in and continental breakfast will take place from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., and the McIDAS training will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.https://www.ssec.wisc.edu/mcidas/mug_meeting/2016/info.html
If possible, attendees should bring their own laptop for training. If you are not able to bring a laptop please contact us so we can help make suitable arrangements.
The three training sessions that will be offered – McIDAS-X Programming, McIDAS-V Scripting, and GOES-R Readiness – are each one day long, so you can attend one or two of them during the two days that training is offered. The McIDAS-X and McIDAS-V sessions are offered only on November 14th, so you can only attend one of them. The GOES-R session is offered only on November 15th. This arrangement allows you to take the GOES-R session plus either the McIDAS-X or McIDAS-V session over the course of two days, or take any of the three by themselves in one day. See the descriptions below for more information about their content.
- The McIDAS-X Programming session is a full-day workshop that is offered only on November 14th. It will include a mini-session on McIDAS-X Python scripts and a mini-session on ADDE server concepts, including how to get data in and out of McIDAS-X. It will also include time to work with McIDAS-X programmers to solve problems and issues that you’re having at your site.
- The McIDAS-V Scripting session is a full-day workshop that is offered only on November 14th. It will be an expanded version of the McIDAS-V Scripting workshop that was offered at the 2015 MUG Meeting. The session will concentrate on foreground and background processing. An overview of commonly used functions will be presented along with a demonstration of their usage within sample scripts to analyze, manipulate and display the data. Various introductory Python topics will be covered before demonstrating how they can be applied to work with data in McIDAS-V. Attendees will be given the opportunity to complete exercises designed to reinforce the presented material. There will be time at the end of the session for questions regarding scripting needs at your site.
- The GOES-R Readiness session is a full-day workshop that is offered only on November 15th. The morning session will focus on using GOES-R Data in McIDAS-X and -V. The afternoon session will focus on accessing GOES-R and other McIDAS Data with a RealEarth Web Map Service.

Note: SSEC reserves the right to modify or cancel the meeting and/or training sessions if the number of registrations do not meet that needed to sufficiently cover the costs. The registration deadline is September 21st, and any decision to cancel the meeting and/or training will be made by October 1st. SSEC also reserves the right to limit the number of attendees per site or organization due to limited space in the MUG Meeting facilities (auditorium and computer labs).
