McIDAS-X for Win7 Fastrack Version 2014.1
Software and Instructions
This page contains the software and instructions for installing McIDAS-X version
2014.1 on a Windows 7 workstation. If you are installing it on a Linux, Mac OS X or Solaris workstation,
go to the Unix instructions.
McIDAS-X for Win7 version 2014.1 is a fully supported Fastrack release. Significant
modifications made since the previous release (version 2013.1) are listed in
the bullets below. The instructions for obtaining and installing McIDAS-X for
Win7 2014.1 appear after the bullet list.
Increased the value of MAXGRIDPT from 2,000,000 to 8,000,000
in gridparm.inc and mcidas.h so the GRD* commands (GRDCOPY, GRDDISP, etc.)
now work with grids that contain up to 8 million points. Also increased
the value of MAXDFELEMENTS from 25,000 to 43,200 in areaparm.inc and mcidas.h
so the IMG* commands (IMGCOPY, IMGDISP, etc.) now work with full globe images at
1 km resolution.
Updated the MSG servers to accommodate MSG-3 and -4 (Meteosat-10
and -11) Rapid Scan Service files.
Updated the AVHRR Level 1b server to support Metop-C data.
The satellite is scheduled to be launched in 2017, per
EUMETSAT's
Metop page.
Added the MCDESKTOP environment variable for use with the DEV=D global
keyword. This environment variable allows DEV=D to be used on Windows 7
workstations which have their desktop directory in a non-standard location. For
more information, see the DEV Global Keyword documentation in the McIDAS User's Guide.
Updated the station database (file STNDB.CORE) to include five new
TAF stations (CNY, DRO, KAEG, MTW, TEX), five new GFSMOS/NAMMOS stations
(KLNL, KLUM, KPCZ, KRCX, KTKV), and hundreds of small airports and other
navigation points referenced in PIREP reports; also changed FAJS to FAOR for
Johannesburg SA, TAF ID K22 to SJS for Big Sandy Regional Airport KY and
corrected lat/lon/ele/type for stations AIY and EEN.
Updated the McIDAS-XRD package (which is included in the
McIDAS-X installation files) to include two new servers (omtpadir and omtpaget)
and one new command (FIXFY2D_NAV2012). See the
Files Included in
McIDAS-XRD 2014.1
page for the complete list of commands, servers and
data files included in the package.
Before installing Fastrack version 2014.1, make sure you view the
complete list of Fastrack
2014.1 Software Changes, and, if you do any programming or local
code development/modification also view and complete the appropriate
actions described in the Fastrack
2014.1 Programmer Notes (pdf). You might want to print or download
these two documents for future reference.
McIDAS-X 2014.1 is a fully supported Fastrack release. This means that the software is
fully supported by SSEC, and that each change to the software has been tested on all of
the supported workstation configurations. Full system testing will occur at least once
on each platform during each calendar year. If you elect to install 2014.1, we ask that
you notify the McIDAS Help Desk if you
encounter any bugs. Please be sure to mention that you are running version 2014.1.
Also note that if you plan to upgrade to 2014.1 from a version earlier
than 2013.1, you must first read and perform any required
actions in the release documents for each of the versions you skipped
so you know about their major changes and any required actions in the
interim. For example, if you are upgrading from version 2011.1 to 2014.1,
you must first read and perform any required actions in the release
documents for versions 2012.1, 2012.2 and 2013.1. See the
past versions page for
links to those and other materials from past versions.
To obtain and install McIDAS-X and/or McIDAS-XRD 2014.1, complete the following steps.
Download (e.g., right-click and select Save option) the following
files to the ~mcidas directory
on your McIDAS-X for Win7 workstation. Note: The installation will fail
if the names of the downloaded files do not exactly match those listed
below. If your web browser changes the names of the files during
download (e.g., mcidas2014.1_win7.tar.gz becomes mcidas2014.1_win7_tar.gz),
you must rename the files to those below before installing.
