McIDAS-X
Fastrack
Version 2009.1
Software and Instructions
This page contains the software and instructions for installing McIDAS-X
version 2009.1, a fully supported Fastrack release. Significant modifications
made since the previous release (version 2008a) include:
- added support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux version
5.0; programmers who
do local McIDAS development must see the excerpt about RHEL 5 and the supported
compilers in the Fastrack 2009.1
Programmer Notes (pdf)
- removed references to Nested Grid Model (NGM) due
to the NWS terminating it effective 03 March 2009 (NWS
TIN08-90); the changes are mostly to the MOSRPT command (changed TYPE=
keyword default from NGM to GFS) and McIDAS User's Guide
GRD* command examples
- added support for NOAA-19 in servers, ingestors, calibration files and
ancillary data files
- updated the McIDAS-X 2009.1 installation files and
scripts to include the McIDAS-XRD 2009.1 software package; here
is some additional information:
- this change applies to 2009.1 and all
subsequent versions of -X and -XRD (i.e., both packages will be included
in the 2009.2, etc. installation files and scripts)
- this change was done to make
it easier to optionally install the -XRD package (previously, to install
both -X and -XRD you had to download and install each package separately;
it can now be done by downloading one set of files and running one build
and install procedure)
- as before, installing -XRD is still optional - the only negative
impact for sites that don't install -XRD is that the tar file will be
larger (because it contains both -X and -XRD)
- see the McIDAS-XRD Software Page for more information about -XRD, as well
as a list of software contained in -XRD 2009.1
Before installing Fastrack version 2009.1, make sure you view the complete
list of Fastrack 2009.1
Software Changes,
and, if you do any programming or local code development/modification also
view and complete the appropriate actions described in the Fastrack
2009.1 Programmer Notes (pdf). You might want to print or download these
two documents for future reference.
McIDAS-X 2009.1 is a fully supported Fastrack release. This means that the software is
fully supported by SSEC, and that each change to the software has been tested on all of
the supported workstation configurations. Full system testing will occur at least once
on each platform during each calendar year. If you elect to install 2009.1, we ask that
you notify the McIDAS Help Desk if you
encounter any bugs. Please be sure to mention that you are running version 2009.1.
Also note that if you plan to upgrade to 2009.1 from a version earlier than
2008 (e.g., 2007), you must first read and perform the required actions in
the document titled McIDAS-X Version 2008 Upgrade Procedure,
May 2008 (pdf) that was included in your site's May 2008 upgrade package.
