Preparing the mcidas Account

1. If the workstation does not have a mcidas account, have the system administrator make one with its default permissions set to 755 (umask value 0022).

2. Log on to the mcidas account.

3. Modify the environment variable PATH in the mcidas account's $HOME/.profile file so that it contains the necessary directories when you log on; refer to the table below. The default PATH may not contain all the required directories or have them in the correct order.

All operating systems	If you will be building McIDAS-X using the gcc and gfortran compilers and the mcidas account's existing PATH does not include the directory containing the gcc compilers you must add it to the PATH. See below for other changes, if any, needed for each operating system.
Enterprise Linux	none necessary
macOS	none necessary

4. Log off and log on again for the changes to take effect.
