Typhoon Hagibis intensified at one of the fastest rates on record, with the storm being a tropical storm on 5 October 2019, strengthening to a severe tropical storm on 6 October an rapidly intensified to a super typhoon within 18 hours, with similar structures to those of Typhoon Haiyan and Typhoon Tip. It passed the Mariana Islands at 00:30 JST (15:30 UTC) at a then peak intensity of 195 km/h (120 mph) and a central pressure of 915 mbar (27.02 inHg).
