NHC classified the second system of the 2019 Hurricane season as Tropical Storm Barbara at 15:00 UTC on 29 June on the heels of Alvin. By 12:30 UTC on 2 July, Barbara intensified into a Category 4 major hurricane, as evidenced by satellite observations.
