Earthquakes Around the World
This animation shows earthquakes that have
occurred around the world during the past 8 days.
Each 'frame' within the animation shows earthquakes that occurred during one
hour. The size and color of the earthquake are determined by the magnitude
of the quake:
The diameter of the circle is equal to the magnitude
* 100 km
The earthquake information is obtained from
the United States Geological Survey (USGS)
web site. The USGS earthquake database combines information from a global
network (reporting earthquakes with a magnitude > 4) and a national
network (reporting
earthquakes with a magnitude > 1).
This imagery has been provided by the University of Wisconsin, Hampton University and a grant from
NOAA.
